Day 6

Mike’s turn! It has been a few days since we last checked in and we have a few updates to share.

First off, Izzy is doing great! Today she had her central line removed. This is a small feeding line they put into her bellybutton on day 1 to provide additional nutrients and to help balance her levels with IV fluids. She has a small IV in her hand now but that is mostly a backup in case she needs some quick fluids, but most of her nutrients and calories are coming from her regular feedings.

It was my turn for kangaroo time and I held her for almost 2 hours. I’m not sure who loves kangaroo time more, she could probably stay there longer than me but she has the advantage of a diaper.

Isabelle is eating a lot more than a week ago, feeding every three hours and eating the equivalent of 15 M&M candies in a day! Not sure how she doesn’t eat the whole bag… such discipline.

Tomorrow Izzy turns a week old. This has easily been the most stressful and difficult week of my life but thanks to the most amazing staff of nurses and the constant support of our friend and family we’ve made it to this point feeling much better than I would have expected a week ago. For everyone who has supported us thus far, with calls and texts, emails and take out dinners we simply can’t thank you enough. You know who you are 😉 So thank you.
