Thursday 5/3

Isabelle turned two weeks old today! And what a time she’s had. She already accumulated a large collection of books, stuffed animals and more Instagram followers than her father. Mike’s coworkers, Ashleigh and Alexa sent her an adorable little puffin and she also received a baby doe in a care package from Eve’s Victory, a volunteer organization that sends care packages to families with extended hospital stays. I might sound like a broken record but, we can’t possibly articulate our gratitude for all the messages, care packages and visitors who have helped us these past few weeks. I don’t know how anyone could do this without a support system. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Dave and Brooks came for a visit tonight and Brooks got to meet her niece for the first time. Unfortunately, Alice had to stay in the lobby but was able to see her cousin via facetime. Alice brought Isabelle beautiful artwork to help decorate her space, which is now prominently displayed around the room and as wallpaper for her incubator.
The NICU rollercoaster ride continued and built a little momentum after our stressful Wednesday. We received our first call from the Doctor Thursday morning before we arrived at the hospital; Isabelle decided to stage a protest and abstained from urinating for almost 21 hours. Not a cool move at all and something that required a few tests including blood tests, a heart echocardiogram and possibly a kidney ultrasound. Infection is a constant fear and early signs like this set the medical team on a hunt to find the cause before it becomes a full-blown problem. After a quick round of iv fluids, she ended her stunt and gave us a heavy yellow diaper. We struck liquid gold! The doctors will continue to monitor her levels but hopefully, the quick action by the team did the trick.
Looking forward to the weekend, Aunt Adrienne is coming for her first visit!
