Day 70

We hit ten weeks today so I figure I’d give a quick update of Isabelle’s progress since Tuesday.

She is packing on the pounds and last night eclipsed the 5lb mark! Her official weight is 2270 grams. (5.004 lbs) Last night she was able to finish an entire bottle and is looking quite happy this morning as she sleeps away the rainy morning.

Izzy has been on a small dose of Caffeine from day one, 15mg per kilogram of body weight. It’s the equivalent of 4 tablespoons of coffee a day. She’ll probably start demanding lattes every weekend just like her mother… anyway, the caffeine helps her breathing by stimulating the area of the brain that controls respiratory function. It also helps to keep her respiratory rate consistent which reduces the number of oxygen desaturation spells. Today her Doctor decided it was time to stop the caffeine because she is strong enough to breath on her own and over the next week it will exit her system. Hopefully she keeps breathing well on her own and won’t even miss her daily fix.

Other than that, no news is good news. Izzy says goodbye to her neighbor who is graduating today (the Spanish lesions are over) and the parent outreach office is holding a spring dinner so we can mingle with other parents again.
